Learning Log 7
Hi blog readers!
I would like to share a turning point of my life. My Romeo and Juliet Play, I can talk about it all day long!
Firstly, I would like to start with when Mrs Woo announced that we are going to go do this play, I inwardly groan as I though it would be another long and dreadful project with a score that consist seventy percent of our literature exam! Okay, moving on to the next step, the splitting of group, of course I would love to be in a play with my close friends, image the fun when we would be going shopping for costumes together! However, my life was not that awesome, so apparently, if I remembered correctly, we got split into our groups by the number selector!
I gave a sigh and walk towards my group, which consist of Jeron, Kelvin, Liang Wei, Tarif, Lionel, Rachel, Rebbeca, Shadleen, Steffi, Hui Min and me. My first reaction was "hey! This might be okays! I know everyone in here!" When we came together as a group, Mrs Woo wanted us to choose our Romeo and Juliet on the stop! We were shocked, however, we wasted no time find our cute couple! Shadleen and Tarif! They are the best couple we can ever get! They are about the same height, they are from the same races so they have no problem in communicating, Tarif has acted before and Shadleen just gives a sense of aura and totally look feminine. Everyone nodded and murmured in agreement that they are the best Romeo and Juliet!
Other groups spent alittle more time getting their Romeo and Juliet characters ready. Finally, all the Romeo and Juliet characters were ready! I think the bell rang off so this concludes the first meeting of our R&J meeting.
The second meeting was when we just came back from other Secondary 2 Camp, we were all so tired that we could barely walk- I blame the night hike from the camp! However, we had to carry ourselves to the four fourth and go through our test papers and just when we though we could go home, Mrs Woo told us, now, you have to get into our R&J group and decide who to be which character! I slumped against my chair and grumbled to LiLing, my closest friend, she was too complaining as she was also tired out from the camp.
I shuffled my feet to my group and they were already deciding the roles!
I looked through the blank spaces left and found out almost all the roles were taken. I scanned and saw the serving man character was left empty! I was excitedly pointing towards the paper and said,"I want this role!" I
cannot remember clearly who, but someone wrote down my name, having satisfied with my role, I wandered over to LiLing's group, to found out that she was the the Cousin! I looked around and found most group were deeply in discussion, I hurried back to my group and someone told me, "Calisa, can you be the serving man for Cast B? Lionel has taken the role of serving man for Cast A." I shrugged my shoulders and said, "sure! Why not? But I have to have a role in Cast A right? Because Mrs Woo says everyone has to be in the Cast A or the person does not get the marks." I said worriedly, afraid that the changing of roles would affect my grades. I hurried over to the paper and saw my name cancelled and replaced by Lionel, I turned over and asked Shadleen, "Then what is my role?" She pointed to the Wardrobe Manager and none of the names of my group member was written there! I thought, maybe this might be good! Anyways, the role is only in charge of the costumes! So, let me explain my group roles to you! Director is Rachel, Romeo is Tarif, Juliet is Shadleen, Cousin is Jeron, Benvolio is Kelvin, Lord Capulet is Liang Wei, Tybalt is Rebecca Nurse is Steffi, Lionel is serving man, Hui Min is Lady Capulet and I am the Dancer plus the Wardrobe Manager.
We chose Rachel as director as we though she could led us to better performance and she is very trust-worthy. Soon after we had decided for the roles, we proceeded home.We communicated through messages but, we had the very little practices as many of us cannot make it or have something on that day. The scariest thing is that, Jeron broke his leg during school hours and we cannot do anything! However, I remembered the last two rehearsal and our shopping trip to Bugis before we had before the actually performance...
Firstly, our trip to Bugis. Not everyone attended the trip, Steffi did not come, Rachel was in the middle of tuition and Jeron broke his leg. I asked Liang Wei he need not attend as he did not have any costumes to buy. Rebbeca had church so she did not come as well. So, me, Hui Min, Tarif, Lionel, Kelvin and Shadleen wen to buy our costumes, we met as causeway MRT before proceeding to Bugis station to meet Kelvin and Lionel. After we met, Kelvin said he needed to go early so we went shopping for his costumes first. Since our group was going for the retro style, I researched on the movie "Hairspray" and followed their style, it mainly compromised polka dots, suits and dresses, as a Wardrobe Manager I have the responsibility to dress everyone nicely so that it matches the theme and everyone looks awesome. I choose a pink long sleeve for Kelvin, topped off with a vest and black pants plus a white pair of sneakers and a belt, and I received compliments about his costume! For Rebecca, I asked her to wear her blue checkered long sleeve, back pants, a belt, a chain hanging from her pants with her red sneakers, she have her bad boy look! Hui Min, acting as Lady Capulet, I lent her my dark polka dots dress with a blue bangle, done! She has a feminine look! Cousin, which is Jeron, I actually wanted a blue long sleeve for his shirt but cannot manage to find any.. Therefore, I settled for a grey coloured long sleeve, with a belt, long black pants and he look very nice! For Liang Wei, I decided that since he should have a fourty year old or older man look, I went for my band dark red long sleeve and a black pants with a pair of leather shoes. For me, I wore a pink large polka dot dress, with a thigh length socks and a pink floral sneakers topped off with a brown waist belt and done! Our serving man! Lionel wore a bow tie, long white sleeve, black long pants and leather shoes. With a serving tray and a couple of wing glasses, he looks just like a serving man! Now, for the main characters...
Our Romeo and Juliet! Tarif wore a black long sleeve, a white vest with a red tie, with a black pants, belt and leather shoe, style his hair a little, and there! A perfect Romeo! However, the costume that I am most proud off is Juliet! Shadleen, she wore a black and white polka dots dress sponsored by me, with a black and white polka dots hairband, a pearl necklace, sparkly high heels and lots of hand accessories, she looks the most outstanding!
We meet on a Sunday afternoon at Republic Polytechnic. When I reached, I was the only one there! Jeron came and we meet Rachel on the way. She was carrying so many majong paper that I needed to help her take before she can stable herself. Also, not everyone was present, everyone came except for Steffi, Rachel though that she had been sick and we could not get through her phone. Nonetheless, we did did the props, pasting and cutting and gluing. I cut circles till my hands were pain! When everyone arrive, Rachel asked everyone to change into their respective costumes that I had bought from Bugis Street. We had a awesome rehearsal although Rachel was half crazy as we still did not have the position correct. After long hours, we had even completed the dance steps!
It was about seven in the evening when I went home. The props were half done, the performance was still not up to standard and we had missing people! Everyone was anxious and tired. The final practice was on Wednesday, when we had our last rehearsal, thankfully, everyone managed to change into their costumes, that day, we all went home, tired but excited about the performance.
Finally, Thursday arrived, Rachel briefed us again on our position and after touching up the props and in the AVA Room, we had our last and final rehearsal, Rachel said, "okays guys, this is our last time, we can do it okays? " We nodded in agreement. We were watching the other performance, me and Kelvin and Rebecca and Jeron were touching up on our props when Rachel suddenly rush out and say, "OMG, Tarif forget his lines!" We were all like, what what, is he okays? "Maybe he is just too nervous!" We were having a hectic time grasping what is going on. Soon, it was our turn, we were all very nervous! As I was the dancer, me and Rebecca was suppose to start the whole show, can you even image then tension coiling in my tummy, I was so scared that I would screw up the whole dance...
But, to my amazement, everyone did well! I was so surprised at how angry Liang Wei could speak and the emotions Rebecca could give. With more practice, we could have been the best group!I was amazed how well my group have done, with the little practices we had... I would recommend it to the secondary one for sure! I would like them to experience the fun, the teamwork, the tension and most importantly, the bonding. At that point, I figured that this literature project has been the most awesome experience, the joy when we were practicing, the laughter when Tarif mixed up his lines with Shadleen's, the time when Kelvin finally laughed at our jokes and most importantly, the cheer we did outside the AVA Room. I just want to say that we did awesome "nabeh" group!

Learning Log 6
I learnt that literary devices means moves that a writer might make that are defined not so much by functional or descriptive actions as by imitation and repeated use by many authors at that times. I feel that each and every literary devices are unique and different in their own way! After we had learnt on identify literary devices, we were taught to spot them out in unseen poems and prose. Also to state the hidden meaning about what the writer wanted to imply to the readers. Although these have no definite answers, we have to explain as close to the meaning to get the mark! I like the word Hyperbole the most as it means exaggeration used to evoked strong feelings or creating a impression which is not meant to be taken literally. I feel that this literary devices are usually used in plays during the Shakespeare period! For me, it is hard to understand literary devices because i also cannot understand what the writer wants to imply! However, the lesson was meaning and learning these literary devices can widen our limited vocabulary. I would try my very best to learn them and i hope the lessons would be enjoyable and easy to understand!

I learnt that actually unseen poem is quite easy to do! As long as we allow our feelings to flow through our mind so that we can experience and feel what is the writer trying to tell his or her readers. We have to read the poem or passage carefully and most importantly, use our words whenver possible! When approaching a unseen poem or passage, we have to read it swiflty so we can get a idea of what happen! To organise answers, if it is short, we just have to get it straight to the point! If it is an essay, we just have to give a brief context to the point for the introduction. For the body, edvidence is the most vital! Without edvidence, we do not have points to expand our introduction. For conclusion, we have to rewrite what is the points agains so as to remind the readers, thus giving them a conclusion. It is best to quote from the passage as it appeals more to the readers!

Macbeth! I think that through this performance,
i learn how to be patient because we have to wait for
the items to be bought and time management too.
Why do I say time management?
It is because we have to balance our upcoming
Singapore Youth Festival, known as SYF,
studies, homeworks, tests and this Macbeth
performance where we have to take out time
to practice, decide on what to buy and
whether we have to do the witches "chanting"
and the props for it.
I watch the video of the macbeth opening
over and over again to see
what we need to buy and what we already have.
Also, I have learned that communication is also
very important to producing a good performance.
As all my group members are all from Performing
Arts, we had a hard time choosing a date for us to
practice! Although we only had two practices, I think
we were quite good! However, all my friends say
that I dont look like a evil witch.
I had lots of fun knowing my classmates well through
this performance, and alot of joy and laughter was
brought to our class!
Jia le's group was awesome!
I am quite happy with my results as I know
in some parts I am still lacking and will try to make up
for it in Romeo and Juliet production!
I am looking forward to it!

Learning Log 3
Predictions. Well, for me, predictions are like
mysteries! Why do I say that?
Because predictions might and might not
happen. It makes people wonder why
people can predict such stuff up. Like
how come one can thing of "walk under the
ladder and bad luck will bestow on you."
Did people really exprience it before?
Or is it just a hoax?
Our class prediction's list is very interesting,
I might say. Like Dawn's father KL incident.
Although my group's idea was a fake one, we
tried to make it interesting and alot of possibly came
to our mind. Like, whether what name to use, do we want a real story,
what kind of prediction will we be presenting to the
class. We finally settled on a death prediction.
Amanda's sister was killed in an accident that was
predicted by a old lady sitting beside her on the bus.
We wanted to make it more scary, like adding Amanda
found the old lady days after the accident and Amanda was
scared stiff that the old lady would make another bad prediction,
and ran away, but she cannot run away from her fated...... Things like this.
However, because of time constraint and it is just a short story,
we decided to cut straight to the point and fast. I
must say, my group made up a pretty good story!

Learning Log 1
The lesson was fun and interesting!
However, I was hoping that teacher
can allow us to explore more about
Cinquain. Also to read
more about Cinquain using other people's
poem as refrence.
I learned that the start of the Cinquain is the
title, or topic you want to write, the second
line explains about the object, the third is
the fuction of the object. The fourth
one is using four words to explain the object
The last line is to use a word to
represent the object.
Example:
Books
Thick or thin
Reading, Thinking, Learning
Learning every moment
Lovely
TADA! This is my original poem I have
created! Also, this shows my understanding of
Cinquain! Also, Cinquain, in my opinion is
used to describe generals things! =]
